Summer Solstice 108 Sun Salutations

Welcome Summer!

Join us in celebration of the Summer Solstice. In this donation-based community event we will show our gratitude to the Sun for all of its life-giving energy with a moving meditation of 108 Sun Salutations. We cannot live without the Sun and just by being in it, we gain immense amounts of energy. (Think of our bodies as one big solar panel!) This practice will stoke our inner fire assisting us to detoxify, reground and reconnect to the earth as well as build vital prana - life force energy to burn off what no longer serves us.

Why 108? This is a sacred number across many cultures and religions. Both the Rosary and the Mala have 108 beads. There are 108 Upanishads and 108 Tantras. In Ayurveda, there are 108 sacred points on the body. The distance between the Earth and the Sun is approximately 108 times the Sun’s diameter, and the distance between the Earth and the Moon is approximately 108 times the diameter of the Moon. Finally, in numerology, 108 equals 9, which symbolizes universal love, eternity and awakening.

This is a family friendly event. Join in for all or part of the 108 salutations – broken up into 6 sets of 18 with counter poses in between. All are encouraged to wear white. Bring a mat, plenty of water, a towel and your beautiful self! We will begin promptly at 6:15.

Please arrive by 6:00 a.m. to sign a waiver and set up your mat.
